Graston Technique

Chiropractic Honolulu HI Graston Technique

The Graston Technique in Aiea HI and Honolulu HI uses stainless steel instruments to assist in the treatment of soft-tissue injuries. It's a therapy our doctors will perform to promote healing for several conditions, including sports injuries such as tennis elbow and shin splints. This therapy also effectively treats tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and rotator cuff trauma. It's non-invasive and brief, yet it can bring about quick pain relief and speed up healing.

What Does the Graston Technique Involve?

Most sessions involve a brief warm-up before treatment and mild exercise afterward. The treatment itself may only last minutes. During this time, Dr. Shaun & Dr. Hannah will move smooth, blunt instruments across your skin in gentle scraping motions. This helps them find and identify areas of soft-tissue damage. The instruments magnify differences in soft tissue, making them easier for our doctors to find and eradicate. If your injury is old or involves larger areas of damage, you may need multiple sessions.

How Does This Therapy Work?

The Graston Technique uses cross-friction massage to re-introduce mild trauma to affected areas or old scar tissue. This, in return, promotes increased blood flow to the area, enabling faster healing. This technique can ease both acute and chronic pain for clients who could not find relief using other methods. This technique is non-invasive, never breaks the skin, and is comparable to deep-tissue massage where a therapist uses hands and fingertips to manipulate soft tissue.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Our team will check you in to see our doctors (Dr. Shaun & Dr. Hannah) in a timely fashion, and you'll undergo a clinical assessment to help your medical team better understand your needs. If the Graston Technique is recommended, you may be asked to do simple exercises to warm up before the treatment and to cool down afterward. Treatment is performed in-office, and you'll often notice results right away.
