Dr. Ohira has completed additional education in chiropractic pediatrics, personal training, and various soft tissue (massage) techniques.
Garett Bras D.C.
Dr. Garett is originally from the island of Maui, and he received his doctorate from the Southern California University of Health Sciences, in Whittier, California. As a Chiropractic Physician for over 20 years, he brings to the table a wealth of experience and the tools necessary to help patients get better.
Dr. Garett's story of becoming a chiropractor is a fairly familiar one among chiropractors. An injury to both of his shoulders, his caring mother that told him to go see a chiropractor that everyone was talking about... and as they say, "The rest is history."
After receiving his doctorate, Dr. Garett took a position with an esteemed orthopedic surgeon's office on the Miracle Mile in Los Angeles. The focus of his work during this time centered around the rehabilitation of post-surgical orthopedic patients. The lessons learned while treating post-surgical patients allowed Dr. Garett to gain a unique perspective as well as invaluable experiences with treating post-surgical patients, and heavily influence how he treats them to this very day.
While living in California, his decision to return to Hawaii was made while on a trip to Oahu and on a ride around the island with a friend. By the end of the ride, Dr. Garett had made the decision to move back to Hawaii and make a life on Oahu. The only guiding thought on his decision was, "This is home, and you just can't find this anywhere else."
After returning home and being in private practice, Dr. Garett was selected to be involved in the development and implementation of the complementary alternative medicine (CAM) protocols for the Pain Rehabilitation Program, a pilot research program for the United States Army. The program was so successful, it became the model for pain management programs at military treatment facilities around the world. Dr. Garett also holds the unique distinction of being the first chiropractor on staff at Tripler Army Medical Center.
Dr. Garett's philosophy on the approach of his care is based on 2 fairly simple guiding principles: Treat everyone with the care that you would give to your family, and help the people who come to see you get back to what they love doing... fast.
Dr. Garett firmly believes in the idea that quality of life plays an important role in living a lifestyle that everyone has the right to enjoy. The care that he provides his patients allows them to do just that.
Whether he’s working with diverse populations, from high-level athletes and elite military operators to families and our Kupuna, Dr. Garett’s background and knowledge of human movement and function, allows everyone to get the best care possible.
When not doing work as a Chiropractic Physician, Dr. Garett gives back to the community and the healthcare profession by teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Kinesiology at a local massage therapy academy.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, golfing, cooking, and grilling.
NICHOLAS LATONA D.C.
Specialization: Webster’s Technique (pre-natal/pregnancy chiropractic technique), Animal Chiropractic (horses/dogs).
Dr. Nick LaTona, D.C., grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. After undergraduate college at the University of Missouri, he returned to Kansas City to get a Doctorate in Chiropractic from Cleveland University.
After graduation, he moved to the southernmost region of Italy; Calabria. He practiced and excelled at showing chiropractic treatment to the previously unaware southern Italians. As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Dr. LaTona returned to the United States and decided to chase his other dream of practicing in Hawaii.
What led your passion to a path of becoming a Chiropractor?
“My first job when I was 14 was baking bread. I continued to bake bread through high school and undergraduate college. I was the head bread baker for a bakery in Columbia, Missouri (location of the University of Missouri). One day, while bending over lifting 100+ lbs of dough from a large mixing bowl, I experienced a severe injury to my lower back. I went to the MD and was prescribed painkillers and muscle relaxers.”
Why did you choose to specialize in prenatal chiropractic?
“I have two older sisters who are 15 and 20 years older than me and a brother who is ten years older. I became an uncle when I was six years old, and after my first nephew, I continued to be blessed until my 13th niece/nephew was born five years ago. I grew up enjoying time with family and learning the importance of caring for one another. I chose to specialize in family and pre-natal care because of this background.
In his spare time, Dr. Nick enjoys doing lots of sewing/upholstery, auto/motorcycle building/repair, and woodworking.
